Local Merchants, Youth Shops, and Artists Join the Festival
Gurye County in South Jeolla Province announced on October 14 that it will host the '10th Omack Festival Come! Gurye, Let's Enjoy in Gurye' on October 18 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the permanent stage area of the Gurye-eup Five-Day Market.
The Omack Festival has been promoted as part of the central urban area regeneration project, aiming to revitalize the stagnant traditional market, foster regional coexistence, and boost stay-type night tourism.
This year's festival will be held under the slogan, "Spend Coupons Today, Smile for the Local Economy Tomorrow." The event will bring together the local merchants' association, youth-run shops, and the residents' council, creating a collaborative autumn night festival for both locals and tourists.
The festivities will kick off at 5:00 PM with an opening ceremony, followed by a variety of programs to enrich the autumn evening, including a saxophone performance by the Nogodan Ensemble, live performances by invited singers such as Ko Doyoung, Seo Jin, Byeolha, and Yeosin, as well as a popular music stage by Culture Salon.
At the festival site, a voucher system will be implemented to promote a healthy and safe drinking culture, offering one 500cc draft beer for 500 won, with each person allowed up to four beers.
Youth-run and resident-run shops will also participate, selling a variety of foods such as fried snacks, chive pancakes, sweet and spicy chicken, tteokbokki, and fried chicken, as well as unique items like handmade bread and crafts.
County Governor Kim Sunho stated, "I hope that everyone, both residents and tourists, will create warm memories together at the Omack Festival, where people connect and music and laughter fill the autumn night at the Gurye Five-Day Market." He added, "We will continue to develop the festival to further revitalize the traditional market and urban regeneration in the future."
