Policy Improved One Year After Fairness Issue Raised at Government Audit
Samsung Electronics' tablet PC 'Galaxy Tab 10.1'
Starting next year, Samsung Electronics will extend the free warranty period for tablet PCs sold in Korea to two years. The two-year warranty policy, which had previously been applied only in select overseas countries, will now be equally implemented in Korea.
On October 13, Kim Hyun, a member of the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, announced during a government audit of the Ministry of Science and ICT at the Sejong Government Complex, "I have received a response from Samsung Electronics stating that, beginning next year, the domestic warranty period for tablet PC products will be extended to two years."
The expanded warranty coverage will apply not only to currently available Samsung Electronics tablet PCs but also to all new products to be released in the future.
Previously, during last year's government audit, Assemblyman Kim pointed out the issue of fairness by stating, "Samsung Electronics limits the warranty period for tablet PCs to one year in Korea, while offering a two-year warranty in some overseas markets such as France, the United Kingdom, and Italy."
With Samsung Electronics presenting this improvement plan, Korean consumers are now expected to receive the same level of product warranty benefits as overseas customers.
