The largest mountain bike festival in Korea, the "Dongducheon Wangbangsan MTB Competition," will be held in grand fashion on October 19 at the Dongducheon City Sports Complex and the Wangbangsan area in Gyeonggi Province.
Celebrating its 19th year, this event has established itself as a leading sports festival where mountain bike (MTB) enthusiasts, families, and tourists from across the country come together. It has become a signature regional sports event that symbolizes autumn in Dongducheon City.
The Wangbangsan MTB Competition features courses that showcase the unique characteristics of mountainous terrain. Among MTB fans, it is recognized as a "top-tier course in Korea that offers both the highest level of difficulty and breathtaking scenery."
This year’s competition will include a variety of categories, such as a 35-kilometer cross-country (X.C) individual race for MTB enthusiasts nationwide, a non-competitive division, and an E-bike division. Anyone from elite athletes to beginners can participate, and there will also be a balance bike festival for children, specially prepared for families.
Dongducheon City aims to use this competition to boost both the local economy and tourism, while widely promoting the pristine natural beauty of Wangbangsan and the appealing urban image of Dongducheon to participants and visitors.
Park Hyungdeok, Mayor of Dongducheon, stated, "The Wangbangsan MTB Competition is more than just a sports event; it is a festival that unites the community and its people. I hope that everyone who loves MTB can gather here to fully enjoy the autumn in Dongducheon and find both energy and healing."
