Six Young Farmers Selected for '10,000 Won Monthly Rental' Smart Farm
"Fostering Young Entrepreneurs to Lead the Future of Agriculture"
On October 13, Gokseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jo Sangrae) announced that young farmers who have moved into the county-operated rental smart farm for the first time have begun full-scale farming by planting the 'Seolhyang' strawberry variety.
The six young farmers selected for this initiative were chosen through a public recruitment process in February, followed by document screening and interviews in March. In line with the strawberry planting season, they signed a three-year rental contract last month, moving in with a monthly rent of 10,000 won.
The rental smart farm project aims to lower the barriers for young people entering agriculture and to provide a stable foundation for starting agricultural businesses. A total of 3.9 billion won was invested to establish the facility in the Songjeon-ri area of Ip-myeon. The project was completed by linking the Jeonnam Smart Farming Complex Project (3 billion won, 4 greenhouses) with the Young Farmers’ Rental Smart Farm Project (900 million won, 2 greenhouses).
The facility includes six smart plastic greenhouses (each 1,300 square meters) equipped with ICT-based automated nutrient solution cultivation systems, as well as a shared storage facility. The county plans to operate a variety of support programs, including on-site training, expert mentoring, and pest and disease management, to help young farmers gain practical farming experience and generate stable income during their rental period.
A county official stated, "We plan to provide on-site training on initial growth management and pest and disease control to ensure stable growth and harvest of strawberries. We will actively support young farmers so that, with their skills and passion, they can lead the future of agriculture."
