The 25th Main Stage Production from CJ Cultural Foundation’s Stage Up Program
CJ Cultural Foundation announced that the musical "Fraternite," which received development support through the musical creator support program "Stage Up," will premiere in October. "Fraternite" will be officially performed at Link Art Center Dream, Dream Hall 3, from October 28 to January 18 of next year.
"Fraternite" was selected for Stage Up in 2023. The work was first released through a reading showcase in April last year, and has since undergone additional development incorporating various feedback.
Set in late 18th-century France, when the concept of revolution was emerging, "Fraternite" tells the story of two men who were once like brothers but choose different paths between ideals and reality, leading to conflict.
Actors Park Yudeok, Ahn Jaeyoung, and Yang Jiweon will play the role of Victor, while Yoon Jaeho, Kim Kitaek, and Lee Seheon will take the stage as Gervais.
Writer Lee Damin, known for the musical "The Pool's Apple," and composer Lim Yejin, who worked on the web musical "Infected," participated in the creative team for the development of this work.
CJ Cultural Foundation carries out a variety of cultural and social contribution activities based on the philosophy of Chairman Lee Jay-Hyun, who believes that "companies should be the guardians of young people's dreams." Stage Up is a support program for musical creators, providing systematic assistance at each stage of market entry, from project planning and development to connections with production companies.
Through Stage Up, CJ Cultural Foundation has supported the development of a total of 77 works to date. Of these, 24 original musicals, including "Goddess Is Watching," "Pungwolju," "Rah Hest," and "Hongryeon," have made it to the main stage.
A representative of CJ Cultural Foundation stated, "It is meaningful that 'Fraternite' can finally meet the audience after about two years of development. We expect this premiere to demonstrate new possibilities for original musicals, and we will continue to support the brilliant efforts of young creators so that their work can come to fruition on stage."
