Despite Seocheon County's Stance of "Resident Briefing After the Election," Governor Kim Orders, "Proceed Even Tomorrow"
Chungnam Province is set to move forward with a pilot project for a public industrial waste landfill facility within the Janghang National Ecological Industrial Complex in Seocheon County. However, as Seocheon County has announced its intention to postpone the resident briefing session due to next year's local elections, unavoidable conflict within the region is anticipated.
Governor Kim Taeheum made it clear that he intends to push ahead with the project, stating, "If it is necessary, we should proceed even if the election is tomorrow."
At the 80th Directors' Meeting held at the Chungnam Provincial Government on the 13th, Kim Youngmyung, Director of the Environment and Forestry Bureau, reported, "We are promoting a pilot project to establish an industrial waste landfill facility and a recycling center within the Janghang National Ecological Industrial Complex in Seocheon County, and we have already provided explanations to provincial and local council members."
He added, "Seocheon County has expressed its intention to hold the resident briefing session after next year's election. Since the site is already designated for waste treatment, I believe that if the province directly acquires it, it could actually help improve the surrounding environment."
In response, Governor Kim emphasized, "Delaying the project for the sake of the election is unacceptable. If necessary, ensure that it can proceed as soon as tomorrow."
He further stated, "We will see this through for the environmental safety of residents and balanced regional development."
The province plans to expand the installation of waste treatment facilities to future industrial complexes, starting with this pilot project in Seocheon County and including Cheonan’s 6th Industrial Complex and Cheonan-Hongseong National Industrial Complex.
However, since Seocheon County is considering postponing the resident briefing session until next year, citing concerns about holding it during a sensitive election period, there is a possibility that the project schedule may be affected.
