Korean-American violinist Randall Goosby will perform with the KBS Symphony Orchestra for the first time.
Goosby will collaborate with the orchestra on Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto at the 819th subscription concert of the KBS Symphony Orchestra, which will take place at 8 p.m. on October 17 at the Concert Hall of the Seoul Arts Center.
Goosby was born in 1996 in San Diego, United States, to a third-generation Korean-Japanese mother and an African-American father. At the age of 13, he won the Sphinx Competition for young musicians in the United States. In 2020, at the age of 24, he signed an exclusive contract with Decca Classics, drawing significant attention. He studied under world-renowned violinists Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho at the Juilliard School.
This marks Goosby's return to Korea in two years since his first solo recital in 2023. He currently performs on the 1708 'ex-Strauss' Stradivarius violin, crafted in Cremona and provided on loan with support from the Samsung Foundation of Culture.
The concert will be conducted by Peter Oundjian, who built an international reputation during his 14-year tenure with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and now serves as Music Director of both the Colorado Symphony and the Colorado Music Festival.
The program will open with "Concerto for Orchestra Suite" by American contemporary composer Joan Tower, a piece noted for its dynamic rhythms and vibrant colors, which will be given its Asian premiere at this concert.
This will be followed by Goosby's performance of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, and the second half of the concert will feature Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 3.
