Gwangju Dong-gu District announced on October 13 that it will hold a special prize event to promote the use of the local currency “Gwangju Donggurang Pay” and revitalize the local economy during the 22nd Gwangju Chungjang Festival, which will be held from October 15 to 19.
During the festival, citizens who present receipts showing daily purchases of at least 100,000 won using Donggurang Pay will be eligible for the event. Each day, 100 winners will be selected by lottery to receive a 50,000 won Donggurang Pay prepaid card as a prize. Over the five days, a total of 500 people will benefit from this event.
To participate, receipts totaling 100,000 won or more from payments made with Donggurang Pay at affiliated stores in Dong-gu can be combined. Entries can be submitted at the Donggurang Pay event booth at the Chungjang Festival site. Winners will be notified individually the following day, and prizes can be collected at the booth after identity verification.
From October 15 to 17, the district will operate a Gwangju Bank mobile branch at the festival site, allowing visitors to purchase Donggurang Pay on site.
The district expects that this event will provide tangible benefits to both festival visitors and residents, while also boosting sales for local businesses and expanding the use of Donggurang Pay. The prizes distributed at the festival are expected to be spent again at affiliated stores within Dong-gu, creating a virtuous cycle. For more details, visit the Dong-gu District Office website or the information booth at the festival site.
Lim Taek, head of Dong-gu District Office, stated, “The Chungjang Festival is one of Gwangju’s leading cultural tourism festivals. Through this event, both residents and visitors can enjoy participating while also contributing to the revitalization of the local economy. We will continue to promote various policies to ensure that Donggurang Pay leads to increased sales for local small businesses and greater benefits for residents.”
Meanwhile, Donggurang Pay, which was first issued on September 22, saw approximately 150 million won in sales on its first day, receiving a strong response. To date, the cumulative issuance has reached 1.7 billion won. There are currently about 2,500 affiliated stores, and including new registration applications, the number exceeds 3,000.
