National Investigation Headquarters Chief Received Report on Lee Jinsook's Arrest
On October 13, Yoo Jaeseong, Acting Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, commented on President Lee Jaemyung's mention of the dispatch of Superintendent Baek Haeryong in connection with allegations of external pressure on customs drug investigations, stating, "If a request comes from the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, we will review it."
At a regular press briefing that day, Acting Commissioner Yoo said, "A joint investigation between the police and the prosecution has been conducted, and a team has been formed at the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office, where the investigation is ongoing," adding, "We have also referred our case."
Regarding the alleged involvement of Park Jeongbo, Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, in the external pressure on the customs drug investigation, Acting Commissioner Yoo stated, "This is a matter for the Seoul Eastern District Prosecutors' Office to review."
Regarding the arrest of former Korea Communications Commission Chairperson Lee Jinsook, the police stated, "The head of the National Investigation Headquarters has the authority to direct and supervise, and we have received reports," adding, "The court recognized the legality of the arrest. If further investigation is necessary, we will proceed."
Regarding allegations that Lee Junseok, leader of the Reform New Party, made remarks of a sexual nature during a presidential election TV debate and received third-party payment for opinion poll expenses, the police stated, "We are proceeding with the investigation in accordance with procedures, including questioning those involved."
