"Send 20 Million Won to the Family of Man in His 30s Who Went to Cambodia"... Another Kidnapping Report Filed

While a university student from Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province, recently died in Cambodia, a report has also been filed that a man in his 30s from Sangju, North Gyeongsang Province, who traveled to Cambodia, was kidnapped by an overseas criminal organization.

According to Yonhap News Agency on October 13, citing the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, the family of a man in his 30s, referred to as A, who departed for Cambodia on August 19, reported losing contact with him on August 22.

According to the report, after losing contact following his departure, A reestablished communication with his family via a Telegram video call on August 24, five days later, telling them, "If you send 20 million won, I can be released," before losing contact again.

Recently, a photo was posted on A's social media showing him holding a notebook containing the details of a loan agreement, and his family reportedly received multiple threatening text messages from unidentified numbers.

The police believe that an overseas criminal organization is detaining and extorting A, and on August 23, they notified the Korean Embassy in Cambodia, the International Cooperation Division of the National Police Agency, and the Consular Call Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the case.

A police official stated, "As soon as we received the report, we immediately notified the relevant agencies," adding, "After confirming his departure, we sent another official notice to the Korean Embassy in Cambodia regarding his disappearance."

This year, a total of seven cases, including this incident and the Yecheon university student case, have been reported in North Gyeongsang Province involving people who went missing after traveling to Cambodia. According to the police, two cases (one from Sangju and one from Gyeongju) remain unresolved.
