The Space Aviation Agency is launching the "2025 K-Aerospace Open Innovation" to discover startups with innovative technologies in the fields of space, aerospace, and artificial intelligence (AI).
This open innovation initiative is co-hosted by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), the Innopolis Foundation, Jinju Innovation District (Gyeongsang National University), and the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. Applications will be accepted from the 13th of this month until November 5.
The program will recruit companies seeking collaboration in KAI's areas of demand (space, aerospace, AI, and autonomy). After document screening and presentation evaluations, a total of three companies will be selected. The final winners will receive the Space Aviation Agency Director's Award and a total of 30 million won in KAI commercialization funding.
This open innovation is not just a simple contest but will be operated as a linkage program for practical commercialization and follow-up growth. Selected companies will be matched with dedicated KAI business departments to pursue strategic investment reviews and joint development. In addition, they will have opportunities for investment from the Innopolis Foundation's special zone fund, technical support from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, and participation in Jinju Innovation District's management consulting program.
The Space Aviation Agency also plans to provide international cooperation support for companies wishing to enter overseas markets, including global networking, invitations to international events, and connections to overseas accelerator programs.
No Kyungwon, Deputy Director of the Space Aviation Agency, stated, "This project is significant as it marks the first open innovation initiative in the space and aerospace sector based on private sector demand, aiming to drive technological innovation and expand participation. As space, aerospace, and AI are strategic fields with high future growth potential, we will continue to discover promising deep-tech companies and foster an innovative ecosystem."
