Yeoksam Tops in Payment Volume
Targeting 1 Million Locations by Next Year
Viva Republica, the operator of Toss, announced on October 13 that the number of merchants with Toss Place payment terminals and POS (Point-of-Sale) system solutions installed has surpassed 200,000 locations.
To commemorate exceeding 200,000 merchant installations, Toss Place released a nationwide statistical analysis of terminal installations.
According to the statistics, the commercial district with the highest concentration of terminal installations was Hongdae.
The area with the highest terminal density was Seogyo-dong in Mapo-gu, Seoul, where the Hongdae commercial district is located. Approximately 30% of all stores in Seogyo-dong were found to have installed and are operating Toss Place terminals.
Yeoksam-dong in Gangnam-gu, Seoul ranked first in both the total number of merchants and payment transactions. As the largest commercial and business district in the country, it has a high frequency of payments due to its concentration of shopping, dining, large beauty salons, and medical and healthcare businesses.
Among all local governments nationwide, Jeju City ranked first in terminal installation rate relative to population. This year, Sejong Special Self-Governing City and Daejeon City saw the highest growth rates in terminal installations, with the number of merchants increasing by approximately 220% and 240%, respectively, compared to the beginning of the year.
Toss Place explained that the nationwide expansion of Toss Face Pay, a facial recognition payment service, has also accelerated the spread of terminals. Payments can be completed in less than one second by simply looking at the Face Pay terminal.
Toss Place plans to increase the number of merchants with Face Pay installed to 1 million by next year.
A Toss Place representative said, "Thanks to the easy-to-use and versatile terminals, we have achieved the milestone of surpassing 200,000 merchants," adding, "Based on nationwide merchant data, we will provide insights to current and prospective business owners and foster a culture of shared growth."
