Discussing Detailed Plans for Livelihood and Reform Initiatives to Be Pursued by Year-End
On October 12, the first Sunday after the Chuseok holiday, senior officials from the Democratic Party of Korea, the government, and the presidential office gathered in one place to begin discussions on current issues and the direction for implementing future state affairs.
Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheongrae, Floor Leader Kim Byunggi, Prime Minister Kim Minseok, and Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hunsik held a high-level party-government consultation at the Prime Minister's official residence in Jongno-gu, Seoul, at 4 p.m. on this day.
This meeting appears to have been arranged not only to reflect on public sentiment gathered during the holiday period, but also to share detailed implementation plans for livelihood and reform initiatives that the ruling bloc will pursue during the regular National Assembly session at the end of the year.
In addition, it is expected that the continued overheating of housing prices, especially in Seoul, despite two rounds of real estate measures introduced since the Lee Jaemyung administration, will be discussed. The government is reportedly seeking follow-up measures such as a "real estate package."
There is also speculation that the response to the first parliamentary audit under the Lee Jaemyung administration, which will begin on October 13, will be discussed. In particular, the Democratic Party is expected to launch strong pressure on Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Huidae from the very first day of the audit.
Furthermore, the pace of judicial and media reform, where differences in stance between the ruling party and the presidential office have been observed, may also be discussed. Accordingly, attention is focused on whether a message reaffirming unity between the party and the government will be delivered to dispel concerns about discord.
