Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Geumcheon District
and the Launch of the Second Phase of the Age-Friendly City Initiative
Geumcheon District in Seoul (Mayor Yuseong Hoon) will hold the “Baekgeumnarae Proclamation Ceremony” at 3 p.m. on October 13 at the Geumnarae Art Hall. This event commemorates the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Geumcheon District and marks the official launch of the second phase (2025-2029) of creating an age-friendly city.
Yuseong Hoon, mayor of Geumcheon District, is talking with senior citizens at the Geumcheon Senior Welfare Center. Provided by Geumcheon District.
“Baekgeumnarae” is a name that combines “Geumnarae,” the district’s mascot, with “Baekgeum,” which refers to the white hair of the elderly, symbolizing a healthy and independent later life. In 2024, the proportion of elderly residents in Geumcheon District exceeded 20%, officially entering a super-aged society.
The proclamation ceremony will focus on intergenerational empathy and harmony, featuring a declaration that highlights the integration of seniors and other generations. The event will begin at 3 p.m. at Geumnarae Art Hall, where representatives from each generation will announce the “Baekgeumnarae” slogan and participate in a commemorative group photo. This will be followed by a variety of cultural performances, including a magic show, choir performance, and taekwondo demonstration. The Geumcheon District Senior Choir will take the stage, further emphasizing the significance of an age-friendly city.
From noon to 5 p.m., experience and counseling booths will be set up at the Geumcheon District Office plaza, open to all residents. A total of nine organizations will participate, offering health consultations, nostalgic photo sessions, job counseling, environmental experiences, beauty services, and food booths to engage with the community.
Mayor Yuseong Hoon stated, “Through the Baekgeumnarae Proclamation Ceremony, we aim to support the healthy and proactive lives of seniors and promote a culture of intergenerational cooperation within the community. We will do our utmost to make Geumcheon a place where seniors can enjoy happiness, befitting its status as an age-friendly city in this era of longevity.”
