Strong Earthquake Strikes off Philippines... Foreign Ministry Says "No Korean Casualties"

On the morning of October 10 (local time), a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck the waters near Mindanao Island in southern Philippines. As of now, there have been no reported casualties among Korean nationals.


A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official stated around 4 p.m. on the same day, "There have been no reports of casualties among our citizens so far," adding, "Our local embassy will continue to monitor the situation through Philippine authorities and the Korean community to determine if any of our nationals have been affected."


According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred at approximately 9:43 a.m. on the eastern coast of Mindanao Island in southern Philippines.
