52 Teams from 8 Junior Colleges Nationwide Participate
All Three Teams from Gyeongnam Information University Win Awards
The Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering at Gyeongnam Information University received both the Gold Prize and the Encouragement Award at the 17th College Student Creative Design Competition for Junior Colleges, hosted by the Korean Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Korea Chemical Industry Council.
The "2025 Chem Frontier Chemical Engineering College Student Creative Design Competition," held on September 25 at the Suwon Convention Center, was organized under the theme "Designing the Future: Connecting Digital and Energy through Chemical Engineering." A total of 52 teams from eight junior colleges nationwide competed in the event.
Gyeongnam Information University fielded three teams with 15 students in total, and every team won an award. Among them, the "Zero Process" team won the Gold Prize (video category) with their project on "Production and Coating of Starch-Cellulose Biodegradable Film." The "Shining Pair" team and the "Chem-pion" team also received Encouragement Awards in the PPT category.
Jang Minseok, who led the Gold Prize-winning team, said, "The process of brainstorming ideas and preparing experiments with my teammates under our professor’s guidance was a valuable experience in itself. Winning this award has boosted my confidence and will be a great help in preparing for employment."
Kim Byungcheol, head of the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering, emphasized, "The entire process, from idea development to experimentation, analysis, and presentation, was an important opportunity for students to cultivate engineering thinking and teamwork. I will continue to support students so that they can take pride in their major and devote themselves to self-development."
