With the end of the extended Chuseok holiday period, which lasted up to ten days, attention is now turning to when the next long holiday will occur. It appears that another "golden holiday," created when Chuseok, National Foundation Day, and Hangeul Day coincide with weekends, will return in 2028.

According to Yonhap News on October 10, 2028's Chuseok holiday (October 2-4) will overlap with Saturday and Sunday at the beginning of the week, and with National Foundation Day, resulting in one substitute holiday. This means the holiday period will last six days, from September 30 to October 5. If you take a day off on Friday (October 6), the weekend and Hangeul Day will follow, making it possible to enjoy up to ten consecutive days off.
After that, in 2031, the Chuseok holiday (September 30-October 2) and National Foundation Day (October 3) will connect with the weekend, providing a basic six-day holiday. If you take a day off on Monday (September 29), the day before Chuseok, you can rest for up to nine days. In 2036, the Chuseok holiday (October 3-5) falls on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but two substitute holidays will be added due to the overlap with National Foundation Day, extending the holiday to five days from October 3 to 7. If you take a day off on Wednesday (October 8), the holiday will extend through Hangeul Day, allowing for up to seven consecutive days off.
According to the "Regulations on Public Holidays for Government Offices," if the Chuseok holiday overlaps with Sunday or with another weekday public holiday, substitute holidays are provided. When multiple overlaps occur, the same number of substitute holidays are granted. In 2036, for example, the Chuseok holiday overlaps not only with National Foundation Day, which falls on a Friday, but also with Sunday, resulting in two substitute holidays.
In 2039, the Chuseok holiday (October 1-3) also overlaps with Sunday and National Foundation Day, resulting in two substitute holidays and extending the holiday to five days. However, this does not connect with Hangeul Day or create a bridge holiday.
Another year when it will be possible to have up to ten consecutive days off, as with the recent holiday, is 2044. That year, the beginning of the Chuseok holiday (October 4-6) will be adjacent to the weekend and National Foundation Day, creating a six-day holiday. In addition, as Hangeul Day falls on a Sunday, the following day becomes a substitute holiday. If you take a day off on Friday (October 7), which falls between the Chuseok holiday and the weekend, you can rest for ten consecutive days from October 1 to 10.
According to a survey conducted by HR tech company Incruit among 701 members on the "appropriate and maximum age for new college graduates entering the workforce in 2025," the average age of recently hired new employees was 31.9 years for men and 29.5 years for women. By 2044, these individuals will have reached their 50s and be at the department head level.
Meanwhile, the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026 will last five days, including the weekend. The Chuseok holiday (September 24-27) will overlap with Saturday and Sunday at the end, resulting in a four-day holiday.
