On October 9, the Presidential Office will hold a meeting of the three chiefs, presided over by Chief of Staff Kang Hoonshik, to discuss negotiations on U.S. tariff issues.
According to the Presidential Office, a trade strategy meeting regarding U.S. tariff negotiations will be held at 4:30 p.m. on this day, attended by Chief of Staff Kang, relevant ministries, Wi Sunglak, Director of National Security, Kim Yongbeom, Director of Policy, Koo Yooncheol, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, and Kim Jeonggwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy.
During the meeting, Minister Kim will discuss the details of his recent talks with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick. At that time, Minister Kim proposed a revised memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the U.S. investment fund to Secretary Lutnick, but it is reported that the U.S. side did not show any particular response.
Presidential Office spokesperson Kang Yujeong explained, "It is said that both sides have discussed key issues such as the U.S. financial package," but added, "However, I understand that it is not a situation or stage where we can talk about any agreement or a rapid shift in the near future."
