The National Police Agency announced on October 9 that the number of 112 emergency calls during this year's Chuseok holiday decreased by 4.4% compared to the previous year.
According to the police, among all 112 calls, dispatch requests (down 2.3%), public order maintenance (down 12.7%), and disaster-related calls (down 8.0%) decreased, while crime reports (up 5.5%) and traffic reports (up 4.8%) increased.
During the Chuseok security period, the police deployed a total of 294,773 officers (an average of 26,798 per day) to the field to strengthen patrol activities. They focused on preventing crime by inspecting 4,294 crime- and accident-prone locations in advance to block potential causes.
Significant results were achieved in apprehending violent crimes and crimes affecting public livelihood. By increasing the number of nighttime detectives by 36.6% compared to usual, the police arrested 7,234 individuals and detained 178 of them.
During the holiday, average daily highway traffic reached 5.725 million vehicles, up from 5.55 million the previous year. The police managed traffic flow by concentrating on congested areas during the homecoming and return periods, maintaining stable road conditions without any major traffic accidents.
Yu Jaeseong, Acting Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, stated, "We mobilized all police resources to ensure that the public could enjoy a safe and comfortable Chuseok holiday," and added, "We will continue to do our utmost to create a society that is safe from crime."
