The Gwangju city government announced on October 7 that it will increase the number of city buses operating to Wonhyo Temple to provide convenient transportation for citizens in line with the opening of the summit of Mudeungsan Mountain on October 9.
This opening of the Mudeungsan Mountain summit is taking place for the first time in two years and is intended to support the bid to host the National AI Computing Center and to wish for the successful re-certification of the UNESCO Global Geopark designation in 2026.
The increased service will be provided on bus route 1187, which will operate a total of 99 times-29 more than usual. The number 1187 symbolizes the elevation of Mudeungsan Mountain. During peak visitor hours, 14 buses will be dispatched at intervals of 15 to 20 minutes.
In addition, to ensure convenient transfers between the subway and other city buses at locations such as Culture Complex Station, route 1187-1 will continue to operate 42 times per day at intervals of 20 to 25 minutes. For the Jeungsimsa Temple direction, 102 buses are deployed across nine routes, operating a total of 870 times per day.
Bae Sangyoung, head of the public transportation division, stated, "As many citizens are expected to visit for the first opening of the Mudeungsan summit in two years, we will significantly increase the number of city buses to ensure that visitors experience no inconvenience when using public transportation."
