City Gas, Urban Rail, and City Bus Fares All Among the Lowest
"Contributing to Reducing the Quality of Life Gap Between Regions"
It has been found that city gas, urban rail, and city bus fares in Gwangju and Jeonnam are among the lowest in the country. The gap in public utility fees directly linked to daily life is something that local residents can tangibly feel.
Byeongdo Han, member of the Democratic Party of Korea.
According to data submitted by Byeongdo Han, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Iksan-eul, Jeonbuk), which was obtained from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on October 7, Gwangju and Jeonnam had lower rates than other regions in several of the seven major public utility fee categories nationwide.
Gwangju's residential city gas fee, calculated based on the cooking rate per 1MJ (megajoule), was 11,334 won, the lowest among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide. Compared to Jeju, which had the highest rate at 13,963 won, the difference was about 1.23 times.
Among the eight regions operating urban rail, Gwangju's base fare was the lowest at 1,250 won. In Jeonnam, excluding areas with free city bus service, the fares in Boseong and Hwasun were 900 won each, which is also among the lowest nationwide.
Assemblyman Han stated, "Balanced regional development must start not just with financial support, but with equal access to services that people experience in their daily lives. Narrowing the gap in public utility fees will play an important role in reducing differences in quality of life between regions."
