Dunamu, the operator of the virtual asset exchange Upbit, announced on October 5 that it is launching a "Voice Phishing Prevention Campaign" for the Chuseok holiday period.
This campaign was designed to minimize the increase in cyber fraud incidents that typically occur during holiday seasons.
Through an official notice, Upbit is providing information on different types of scams, including fake exchanges, account rental, impersonation of employees, smishing, romance scams, and fraudulent investment solicitations. The notice also introduces ways to respond to each type of scam.
The campaign's key messages include: ▲Check if it is a registered virtual asset exchange and do not fall for high-return bait! ▲Never agree to requests to rent out your Upbit account! ▲Any contact claiming to be from the prosecution, the Financial Supervisory Service, or Upbit employees is a scam! ▲Always check before clicking on malicious links or smishing messages! ▲Be wary of approaches based on romantic feelings-watch out for romance scams! ▲Any investment solicitation promising "loss compensation" is 100% a scam!
Upbit has continuously taken the lead in preventing voice phishing and fraud. In December 2021, it opened a dedicated 24-hour voice phishing call center to respond to increasingly sophisticated crimes.
Upbit is also proactive in supporting victims. In particular, it has continuously enhanced its real-time abnormal transaction detection system (FDS) and its deposit and withdrawal monitoring system to prevent crime. As of August 2025, the amount of user assets protected by Upbit through the FDS has reached a cumulative total of 145 billion won. Additionally, since 2020, Upbit has worked with financial and investigative institutions to refund approximately 14 billion won in damages to around 700 victims.
An Upbit representative stated, "A collective effort across society is needed to prevent cyber fraud," adding, "As Korea's leading exchange, Upbit will do its utmost to prevent cyber fraud."
