Subcontractor in His 50s Dies in Fall at Hyundai Motor; Company Vows Full Measures (Comprehensive)

A worker in his 50s died after falling at the Hyundai Motor Company Jeonju Plant. Police are investigating the circumstances of the accident.

According to the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency on October 4, at around 9:28 p.m. the previous day, Mr. A (54), an employee of a subcontractor, fell 7 meters while carrying out demolition work at the paint shop of the Hyundai Motor Company Jeonju Plant in Bongdong-eup, Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do. He was transported to the hospital by emergency responders but was pronounced dead.


Police believe the accident occurred when Mr. A stepped on an opening in the floor.


The police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor are investigating whether there were any violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Industrial Safety and Health Act.


Regarding the incident, Hyundai Motor Company stated, "We are deeply saddened by this unexpected accident. We offer our sincere condolences to the deceased and our deepest sympathies to the bereaved family." The company added, "We will fully cooperate with the investigation into the cause of the accident and do our utmost to take all necessary measures."
