The "Global Climate Tech City, Goyang" Future Strategy Symposium, hosted by Goyang Special City (Mayor Lee Donghwan) and co-organized by the Goyang Research Institute and the Goyang Sustainable Development Council, was held on the 1st at the seminar room of the Bitmaru Broadcasting Support Center.

This symposium was organized to seek policy solutions that connect responses to the climate crisis with innovation in local industries, and to officially launch Goyang City's "Economics" strategy.


Over 100 participants, including Goyang citizens, academia, industry, and research institute representatives, attended the event, demonstrating high interest. Various discussions took place under the theme of "Sustainable Carbon Circular Economy and Economics."


The symposium began with a keynote speech by Lee Donghwan, mayor of Goyang Special City.


Mayor Lee stated, "Goyang City will turn the climate crisis into an opportunity to strengthen urban competitiveness, and will establish a climate tech policy roadmap that encompasses industry, economy, and environment."


He further emphasized, "Becoming a global climate tech city is not just an environmental policy, but a strategy to create new growth engines," calling for active participation from both citizens and businesses.


In the keynote presentation that followed, Jeon Hajin, chairman of the SDX Foundation, spoke on "Salim Village Created by Climate Tech," explaining the advanced self-sustaining community of Salim Village as a new urban concept for a sustainable society. He stressed the need to establish a Salim Village in Goyang at an early stage to present a new urban model.


Next, Kim Jaemin, CEO of the Regional Economy Green Alliance, presented on "Sustainable Urban Models for Achieving Carbon Neutrality and Economics," highlighting the importance of exploring a Korean-style direction for carbon neutrality. He proposed strategic approaches that could simultaneously achieve local economic growth and climate response, based on collaboration among local governments, industry, and academia.

During the citizen declaration that followed, representatives of Goyang citizens officially expressed their commitment to practicing carbon neutrality and participating in sustainable urban development, adding significance to the event.


In the panel discussion, Sim Songhak, director at the Goyang Research Institute, served as moderator, with participants including Hwang Jeongjun, president of the Green Plastic Alliance; Kwon Ohyeon, attorney and auditor at the Korea Energy Agency; and Lim Jiyeol, director of the Goyang Carbon Neutrality Support Center. They discussed fostering the global climate tech industry, strategies to expand private sector participation, and approaches to realizing economics. In particular, participating citizens directly suggested practical examples of reducing carbon emissions in daily life and stressed the need for cooperation with local businesses.


Goyang City plans to use this symposium as a starting point to actively pursue its economics vision as a "Global Climate Tech City," going beyond responding to the climate crisis to lead sustainable growth and innovation.
