Hanwha Systems announced on October 2 that it has signed a mass production contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for the long-range surface-to-air missile system (L-SAM) multi-function radar (MFR).
This mass production project is valued at 357.3 billion won and will run until December 2030.
The MFR, known as the "eyes" of the surface-to-air missile system, is responsible for real-time detection and tracking of multiple targets approaching from a distance, as well as identification of friend or foe for aircraft and missile guidance.
Hanwha Systems emphasized that it has significantly improved the L-SAM MFR's ballistic missile search range, number of targets detected and tracked, electronic warfare response capability, and friend-or-foe identification capability.
Hanwha Systems is also in charge of developing the MFR for the second phase (II) of the L-SAM system development project.
