Ulleung County Hosts Special Lecture by Master Ceramic Artist Kim Yongseok, Native of Ulleung Island

Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province hosted a special lecture by master ceramic artist Kim Yongseok, a native of Ulleung, at the Ulleung Hanmaeum Center Literary Creation Workshop on October 1 and 2, 2025.

This ceramic lecture was organized as part of the curriculum for the Gyeongbuk Provincial Happiness University Ulleung Campus and the Happiness Learning Center, both operated by Ulleung County. The event aimed to convey the value and artistic depth of traditional ceramic culture to local residents and to broaden opportunities for cultural enjoyment in the community.

Kim Yongseok is recognized as a master ceramic artist from Ulleung, who has been creating ceramics for decades based on his creative work and research achievements. He is currently based in Daegu, where he has launched the "Dodongyo" brand, named after his hometown Dodong in Ulleung, showcasing a wide range of ceramic works including teacups and teapots.

Kim Yongseok stated, "It is a deeply meaningful and memorable experience for me to give a lecture in my hometown of Ulleung County. I am grateful that so many people welcomed me and participated enthusiastically in the class."

Participants shared their thoughts, saying, "We are thankful that a master artist from Ulleung returned to his hometown to teach us. It has been very difficult to find opportunities for ceramic classes in our region, but through this special lecture, we discovered new interests and the joy of learning."

An official from Ulleung County commented, "We will continue to regularly expand cultural and artistic programs such as master lectures, and we will do our best to provide local residents with a richer cultural life by offering hands-on activities in various fields, not just ceramics."
