This event was organized to comfort elderly people who tend to feel isolated as the holiday approaches by sharing food with them. The Jeonju Regional Self-Support Center personally delivered carefully prepared holiday dishes, creating a festive atmosphere.
The holiday food packages included red bean sticky rice, three-colored songpyeon, braised pork ribs, Korean-style japchae, three-colored jeon, and various seasoned vegetables. In particular, as this year's Chuseok holiday is extended to seven days due to National Foundation Day and Hangul Day, alternative meals were also provided to minimize care gaps.
In this regard, the Jeonju Regional Self-Support Center inspires self-reliance and helps improve independence among low-income and vulnerable groups capable of working by providing them with jobs. As part of this effort, the center has been actively promoting the "Nutrition Plus Project" in cooperation with Jeonju City since 2021.
Previously, another implementing agency of the Integrated Medical and Care Support Project, the Jinbuk-dong Dotorigol Saetteul Village Community Care Center, delivered holiday food packages to about 70 households, including medical-care support recipients and vulnerable elderly people, on the 1st ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
These packages, which included rice cake soup rice cakes and a set of jeon (pumpkin, pollock, and sweet potato jeon), were made possible through a variety of donations from benefactors such as the Jeonbuk Financial Support Headquarters of SH Suhyup Bank (50 sets of songpyeon), Kwon Hyuksin, the head of MG Saemaeul Geumgo Namjeonju Branch (30 sets of seaweed), as well as donations of pollock fillets, eggs, and songpyeon.
Additionally, volunteers from the Jeonju Social Welfare Council's Good Neighbors, the Integrated Care Supporters from the Jeonju Senior Club, and residents of Dotorigol Village all participated in cooking the holiday food.
Furthermore, on October 3, the Jeonju Medical Welfare Social Cooperative plans to have about 100 staff members and Integrated Care Supporters for Health (a senior job program in social services) gather to prepare assorted jeon, japchae, acorn jelly, fruit, and more, and deliver these holiday meals to about 100 households of integrated medical-care support recipients and vulnerable groups.
Lee Hyesuk, Director of Elderly Welfare at Jeonju City, said, "I was concerned that elderly people living alone might feel even more lonely this year due to the long holiday, but I am grateful that so many participating organizations in the city's integrated medical and care support pilot project have taken the lead in the holiday food sharing event. We will continue to expand these opportunities for communication and sharing so that everyone in the community can enjoy a warm holiday, and we will keep providing various forms of support and sharing in the future."
