Rescuing and Transporting Maritime Patients Like the Real Thing... Dong-Eui Institute of Technology Emergency Medical Services Department, Maritime Police On-Site Specialized Experience Program

The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Youngdo, Department Chair Park Youngsoo) conducted a special program allowing students to experience the duties of the Maritime Police.

Dong-Eui Institute of Technology announced on October 2 that it had completed the "Maritime Police On-Site Emergency Medical Care Specialized Experience Program" in collaboration with the Maritime Police Education Center over two days from September 17 to 18. The program aimed to strengthen students' practical skills and enhance their on-site awareness.

A total of 49 students, including first-year student Yang Jihyang, participated in this program. Through hands-on training based on various scenarios simulating real maritime emergencies, students developed their professional rescue and emergency response abilities.

The main educational content included: ▲ Tactical emergency medical care at sea ▲ Simulation of ship and tetrapod accidents ▲ Rescue and transport training for patients in confined spaces and on tilted vessels. Under the guidance of professional instructors from the Maritime Police Education Center, students gained practical experience using actual rescue equipment.

Professor Park Junyoung of the Department of Maritime Rescue (Emergency Medical Services) at the Maritime Police Education Center stated, "This program focused on field-oriented education to cultivate the specialized emergency response skills required at sea, providing students with an opportunity to significantly enhance their practical maritime abilities."

Yang Jihyang, a first-year student in the Department of Emergency Medical Services, said, "I was nervous at first, but by cooperating with my teammates and experiencing real-life scenarios, I was able to develop my judgment and sense of responsibility. Through education tailored to the characteristics of a maritime city like Busan, I have gained confidence in my career path."

The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology is strengthening its major courses to align with practical field duties, aiming to foster emergency medical professionals. The department achieved a 100% pass rate on the national exam for all graduates in February 2024 and continues to develop its curriculum annually in collaboration with field experts.
