Five New Special AI Mates Added
Tarot, Saju, Challenge, Study Coaching, and Insurance Consultation
On October 2, Kakao announced that it has released a new update for 'Kanana,' a separate artificial intelligence (AI) app currently operating in beta service.
The Kanana app is a service where users can experience AI by conversing with the group AI mate 'Kana' and the personal AI mate 'Nana.' Since the beta launch, Kakao has added features and improved technology by incorporating user feedback over approximately four months.

Kakao has changed the initial screen of the Kanana app to a three-tab layout at the bottom and improved the overall chatroom design to enhance readability.
The first 'Home Tab' allows users to chat with the personal mate 'Nana' and, with this update, also with newly introduced special AI mates. There are a total of five special AI mates by topic: Tarot, Saju (fortune-telling), Challenge, Study Coaching, and Insurance Consultation.
The Tarot mate enables diverse interactions using AI-generated images based on the Kana and Nana characters. Users can receive Saju readings on various topics, such as daily fortune, relationships, career, or finances. The Challenge mate helps users achieve and receive recommendations for challenges, supporting the continuation of daily habits, simple goals, or plans through certification stamps.
The Study Coaching mate provides learning advice to students from Lee Byunghoon, CEO of Cheongdam Edu Concierge and a learning consultant in Daechi-dong. Users can take a free learning style test and resolve questions about their study habits based on the results. The Insurance Consultation mate, in collaboration with AI fintech company Habit Factory, offers easy-to-understand information on insurance products and terminology.
In the second tab, the 'Chat Tab,' users can check their list of group chat rooms and engage in conversations. They can also view their friends list and invite new friends. The third 'More Tab' allows users to set up their personal profile or link their data with services such as Google Calendar.
A multimodal AI feature has also been added. Previously, the app could only understand and respond to images, but now it can generate images according to user requests. In group chat rooms, multiple users can collaboratively draw images. Voice-based conversation is also supported, enabling communication in Korean, English, and various other foreign languages.
Personalization features have been strengthened as well, providing tailored responses based on chat history with the mates. In addition, Kakao has improved speed and quality for more accurate and faster answers, and has applied its self-developed AI guardrail model, 'Kanana Safeguard,' to block harmful content and enhance safety.
Kakao plans to further develop the Kanana app into a community AI service by expanding topic-specific mates and activating group chat rooms in the future.
Kim Jonghan, performance leader of Kakao Kanana, said, "We aimed to introduce various mates that can provide convenience and assistance in daily life, thereby activating interactions between users and AI. Through AI mates based on diverse interests, we hope to support individual users and, furthermore, discover use cases that can be actively utilized in groups or communities, thereby creating value for the app service."
