Simultaneous Campaigns by Urban Railway Operators Nationwide
"Government Support Essential for Sustainable Welfare Policies"
Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) conducted a public campaign at Seomyeon Station on October 1, together with the Busan Transportation Corporation Labor Union (Chairman Choi Jeongsik), to raise awareness about the need for national government compensation for losses incurred from free urban railway transportation.

This campaign was organized to inform citizens that, since free transportation is a welfare policy implemented by the government, government support is essential to provide stable and sustainable services for transportation-vulnerable groups.
On the same day, major urban railway operators in Seoul, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju, and Daejeon also conducted simultaneous campaigns.
Previously, representatives from labor and management at urban railway operators jointly submitted a proposal to the National Assembly and relevant government ministries, and held a policy forum to discuss improvements to the free transportation system.
According to Busan Transportation Corporation, as of 2024, the total loss from free transportation across the six major urban railway operators nationwide amounts to 722.8 billion won, which accounts for about 58% of their total net loss. The corporation explained that these losses are a structural issue that individual operators cannot handle on their own.
In addition to this on-site campaign, the corporation is also carrying out promotional activities to raise public awareness through various channels, including digital billboards and public service announcement boards in stations, as well as its official social media accounts. Moving forward, the corporation plans to actively engage in public outreach to widely inform citizens about the need for national government compensation for free transportation losses.
Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, "The issue of losses from free transportation is a structural problem that cannot be resolved by the efforts of individual operators alone," adding, "Urban railway operators nationwide will continue to work together to achieve legal revisions and realize national government compensation."
