President Lee Announces via Facebook Message
“Seniors’ Health and Happiness Have Become a Key National Priority”
Pledges Support for Active Participation of Seniors as Central Members of Society
On October 2, President Lee Jaemyung marked the 29th Senior Citizens’ Day by stating, “As our country has entered a super-aged society with more than 20% of the population aged 65 or older, the health and happiness of our seniors has become a top national priority.” He emphasized that the government would serve as a strong safety net for them.
In a Facebook message posted that day, President Lee said, “I pay my respects to the seniors who have been a steadfast pillar of support for our society through turbulent times,” making these remarks.
President Lee further stressed, “The paths our seniors have tirelessly walked have come together to create the proud Republic of Korea we have today.” He added, “We must remember the dedication of our seniors, protect their dignity and rights, and fulfill our responsibility to build a society where we live together in harmony.”
Accordingly, President Lee pledged that the government would act as a safety net and support seniors so they can actively participate as central members of society. He wrote, “From now on, the government will serve as a strong safety net so that seniors can lead secure and vibrant lives. We will develop comprehensive and meticulous policies and expand support so that seniors can actively participate as central members of society.”
President Lee also remarked, “I remember the seniors who, in difficult times, comforted one another and never let go of even a sliver of hope.” He continued, “I sincerely wish you all long-lasting health and happiness.”
