President Lee Jaemyung: "Supporting Popular Culture to Become Korea's Core Industry"

President Lee Attends Launch of Popular Culture Exchange Committee on October 1
"We Will Uphold the Principle of Providing Support Without Interference"

On October 1, President Lee Jaemyung stated at the launch of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee, "We will actively support our popular culture so that it can become a core industry responsible for the future of the Korean economy, going beyond simply providing laughter, inspiration, and empathy to people around the world."

President Lee attended the launch ceremony of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee held at Exhibition Hall 2 of KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and said, "As a bridge connecting Korea and the world, I ask you to play a significant role in expanding exchange and cooperation, as well as achieving growth in related industries."

The Popular Culture Exchange Committee is a presidential advisory body. Its goal is to establish a national vision for popular culture exchange policies and to promote the continued global spread of Korean popular culture by strengthening public-private cooperation. The committee is co-chaired by Choi Hwiyeong, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Park Jinyoung, CEO of JYP Entertainment, both of whom hold ministerial-level status.

President Lee quoted the words of Baekbeom Kim Gu, "The only thing I want endlessly is the power of a high culture," and remarked, "We are now entering the era of Hallyu 4.0, where culture is exchanged in real time around the world."

He continued, "Just as Kim Gu envisioned, K-culture has finally developed into a powerful medium not just for us, but for people around the world to communicate and empathize with one another," adding, "I hope that, as in Baekbeom's dream, Korea will lead world peace with the power of high culture."

President Lee also referred to the 'arm's length principle,' promising, "We will provide support without interference, ensuring that autonomy can be fully exercised on the ground."

Meanwhile, before the launch ceremony, President Lee toured the K-culture experience zone set up near the venue together with Park Jinyoung, chairman of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee. President Lee looked at light sticks and merchandise of K-pop idols such as BLACKPINK.
