Seven Task Forces Formed for Healthcare, Transportation, and More
Namwon City in North Jeolla Province announced on October 1 that it will implement a "Comprehensive Plan for Stabilizing Livelihoods During Chuseok" from October 3 to 9, so that citizens and returning visitors can enjoy a safe and comfortable holiday.
The city stated that it will operate an integrated situation room composed of seven task forces, including healthcare, transportation measures, and road restoration. This system is designed to prevent disasters and ensure a swift response to any incidents that may occur.
In detail, to ensure that patients can receive emergency medical care without inconvenience during the holiday, Namwon Medical Center, public health centers, public health sub-centers, and designated holiday-duty pharmacies will remain open and available for service.
In the economic sector, considering the recent decline in consumption due to high inflation and the resulting difficulties in the local economy, the city will focus on distributing livelihood recovery consumption coupons and public interest allowances for farmers before the holiday.
Additionally, the city will encourage the purchase of Onnuri gift certificates and hold traditional market shopping events for Chuseok, aiming to revitalize traditional markets. The discount rate for Namwon Love gift certificates will be increased from 10% to 15% to further stimulate the local economy.
To stabilize prices, the city will operate a comprehensive price control situation room, designate 20 agricultural, fishery, and livestock products as key monitoring items, and deploy joint public-private inspection teams to conduct on-site inspections.
For the smooth flow of traffic for those returning home and leaving after the holiday, the city will operate on-site traffic enforcement teams at areas prone to congestion and bottlenecks. In addition, five public paid parking lots will be opened and operated free of charge during the holiday period to provide convenience for both citizens and visitors.
To present a clean city image suitable for welcoming guests during Chuseok, the city will carry out environmental maintenance before the holiday and operate complaint response and special response teams to promptly handle the increased household waste generated during the holiday period.
Furthermore, social organizations and public officials are taking the lead in creating a warm holiday atmosphere by carrying out visits and volunteer activities for vulnerable groups, such as basic livelihood security recipients.
Mayor Choi Kyungsik said, "Chuseok is a special time to share affection and comfort with family, regardless of circumstances. I hope everyone enjoys a warm and bountiful holiday. After Chuseok, we have a variety of events such as the 2025 World Drone Festival and the 33rd Heungbu Festival, so I encourage everyone returning home to spread the charm of Namwon and to enjoy the three major festivals in October as well."
