The event, held over two days on the 25th and 26th, brought together representatives from 37 overseas travel agencies. They experienced a variety of local tourism resources firsthand and discussed ways to develop tourism products aimed at attracting foreign visitors.
This invitation promotional tour was organized with the goal of discovering and promoting new tourism resources in the abandoned mining areas of Yeongwol and Jeongseon.
The foundation aims to collaborate with overseas dedicated travel agencies to develop customized tourism products for foreign tourists and to revitalize the local economy.
The main itinerary included Cheongnyeongpo, High1 Resort, Jeongseon Arirang Festival, Ungiseok experience, and Donggang river bugging. Participants explored various sites where history, culture, and nature converge, experiencing the region’s unique charm. In particular, Donggang river bugging-an activity where visitors ride small boats along the pristine river-stood out as a unique attraction rarely found in existing tourist destinations.
During the event, a briefing session on the development of tourism resources in the abandoned mining areas was held, along with a roundtable discussion. At the roundtable, various proposals were exchanged, including the development of regionally specialized products targeting overseas tourists and linking local festivals and experiential programs.
Representatives from the overseas dedicated travel agencies responded positively, stating, "Gangwon’s nature and culture are well preserved, and the diversity of experiential content gives it great potential for product development. In particular, the wellness experiences at High1 and Donggang river bugging can offer foreign tourists truly unique experiences."
Choi Sunghyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, stated, "Through this invitation promotional tour, we have established a close cooperative system with overseas dedicated travel agencies and will promote the abandoned mining areas of Yeongwol and Jeongseon as new international tourist destinations. We will continue to organize a variety of on-site experiential programs and briefing sessions to attract more foreign tourists and revitalize the local economy."
