Data Requested by Assemblyman Cha Kyugeun of the National Innovation Party
National Fire Agency: "Only Daejeon Center Was Not Inspected Last Year"
It has been revealed that fire authorities were unable to conduct a fire safety inspection of the data center at the Daejeon headquarters of the National Information Resources Service, where a recent fire occurred, due to its designation as a "secure area."
According to data titled "Fire Safety Inspections and Results for National Information Resources in the Past Five Years," submitted by the National Fire Agency to the office of Assemblyman Cha Kyugeun of the National Innovation Party on September 30, fire authorities were unable to carry out safety inspections in secure areas such as the data centers located on the 2nd to 5th floors of the Daejeon headquarters during last year's fire safety inspection.
Regarding the reason, the National Fire Agency explained, "This facility is classified as a 'Class A National Critical Facility,' which, according to security regulations, requires the approval of the facility manager for entry. When the local fire station gave prior notice of the fire safety inspection, mutual agreement with the facility manager regarding access to the secure area was not reached, so only the common area on the first floor was inspected, excluding the 2nd to 5th floors."
However, at the Gwangju, Daegu, and Gongju centers, all floors were inspected, except for the Daejeon headquarters.
Assemblyman Cha stated, "The fire occurred on the fifth floor, where a fire safety inspection could not be conducted," adding, "The National Information Resources Service cannot be free from responsibility for this incident."
