Until November 14...
"Reducing Fine Dust and Preventing Wildfires"
Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province will accept applications for the 2025 second half 'Agricultural By-Product Safe Disposal Support Project' at agricultural counseling centers in each town and township from October 1 to November 14.
According to the county on September 30, this project is being promoted to reduce fine dust in rural areas and prevent wildfires. Instead of the traditional burning method, agricultural by-products are shredded and immediately spread on farmland to promote natural composting, as part of an eco-friendly circular agriculture initiative.
The items eligible for shredding include pruned branches from fruit trees such as apples and grapes, as well as by-products from field crops like peppers, sesame, and beans. Applicants must gather the agricultural by-products at regular intervals within their farmland to facilitate smooth shredding operations, and all impurities such as strings and vinyl must be separated in advance.
The order of priority for the work will be: ▲ areas within 100 meters of forests ▲ elderly farmers and vulnerable groups ▲ general farmland. The project will be carried out in November and December, and may end early if the budget is exhausted.
This project is regarded as Jangsu County’s proactive measure to fundamentally resolve the recurring issue of illegal burning of agricultural by-products. In particular, illegal burning in rural areas during spring and autumn has not only generated fine dust but also caused major wildfires, threatening residents’ safety. The county expects this project to help create a cleaner and safer rural environment.
County Governor Choi Hunsik stated, "Through this support project, we will reduce the risks of fine dust and wildfires while effectively recycling agricultural by-products, thereby contributing to the spread of eco-friendly agriculture. We hope many farmers will actively participate."
