Jukdo, the Second Scenic Spot of Gijang,
to Be Developed as a Unique Tourism Resource
Gijang County (Mayor Jung Jongbok) announced on September 30 that it has recently completed a land purchase agreement for Jukdo (Yeonhwa-ri, Gijang-eup), one of the eight scenic spots of Gijang, and is accelerating the promotion of the "Jukdo Tourism Resource Development Project."
Jukdo is an island adjacent to the Yeonhwa-ri coastline, renowned for its beautiful scenery and ranked as the "Second Scenic Spot" among the eight scenic sites of Gijang. However, as it is privately owned and access has been restricted, it has not been able to fully serve as a tourist attraction.
After more than two years of negotiations with the landowners, the county finalized the purchase agreement on September 29 and is currently proceeding with the ownership transfer process. With this acquisition, the county plans to develop Jukdo as Gijang's "unique tourism resource" and attract visitors from the Osiria Tourism Complex, which draws more than 10 million people annually, into the local area.
Starting next year, the county will promptly carry out both the basic and detailed design phases, redesign the day and night landscape of Jukdo, and make every effort to secure national funding by participating in various public project competitions.
Jung Jongbok, the mayor of Gijang County, stated, "We will preserve the natural environment while reflecting the opinions of residents and experts to create Jukdo as a seaside haven and a distinctive tourist destination," adding, "We will actively attract visitors from Osiria to invigorate the local economy."
