Starting from October 1, a consumer coupon worth 5,000 won will be provided for orders of 20,000 won or more placed through public food delivery applications (apps).
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced on September 30 that, in celebration of Chuseok, it will ease the criteria for issuing public food delivery app consumer coupons from October 1 to reduce the financial burden on households and boost dining-out consumption during the holiday.
The public food delivery app consumer coupon program has been in effect since June 10 of this year. Initially, consumers who placed three orders of 20,000 won or more were given a coupon worth 10,000 won for use on their next order. From July 25, the criteria were relaxed so that consumers received a 10,000 won coupon after two orders, and the previous restriction of one coupon per person per month was removed.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, as of September 21, the number of orders placed through public food delivery apps from June 10 to September 24 reached 13,451, more than tripling compared to the same period last year. The total payment amount also increased from 102.4 billion won to 345.1 billion won during the same period. Market share and monthly active users (MAU) also showed growth.
An official from the Ministry stated, "From October 1, the criteria will be further relaxed so that users who order food worth 20,000 won or more through public food delivery apps can receive a 5,000 won discount every day. We expect that this measure will allow more people to benefit and contribute to economic recovery by revitalizing the dining-out industry during the Chuseok holiday."
The participating public food delivery apps include Baedal Teukgeup, Baedal Moa, Jeonju Matbaedal, Baedal Eui Myeongsu, Baedal Eum, Ulsan Pedal, Baedal Yangsan, Ddaenggyeoyo, Meokkaebi, Wemakeprice O, Whiparam, and Daegu-ro, totaling 12 apps. The coupon issuance criteria apply equally to all participating apps. Depending on each app's system maintenance schedule, the timing and method of coupon distribution may vary slightly. More detailed information can be found on each public food delivery app.
Currently, public food delivery apps operate in 207 out of 229 cities, counties, and districts nationwide, and payments using local gift certificates are available. In regions without a public food delivery app, the same benefits can be accessed through public-private partnership apps such as Ddaenggyeoyo and Meokkaebi. Public food delivery apps operated by each local government can be checked through the 'Public Delivery Integrated Portal.'
Joo Woncheol, Director of Food Industry Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "We hope that this relaxation of the coupon issuance criteria will help ease the burden on consumers amid increased dining-out demand during Chuseok and contribute to revitalizing the dining-out economy. We also encourage dining establishments to actively join public food delivery apps, which offer lower fees, and to participate in boosting the use of these apps by offering menu or delivery fee discounts."
