L&F Transforms Gyeongbuk Waegwan Plant into 'Talent Development Center'... Nurturing Secondary Battery Professionals

Training 2,000 People Annually Through Partnerships With 50 Companies
Regional Collaboration Through Upcycling of Aging Factories

Battery materials company L&F has transformed its former production plant in Waegwan into an educational infrastructure. L&F has expressed its commitment to turning the site into an industrial transformation platform for nurturing future talent in collaboration with its partner companies.

On September 30, L&F announced that it had remodeled the old Waegwan Plant in Waegwan-eup, Chilgok-gun, Gyeongbuk, and officially opened it as the L&F Talent Development Center in early September. Completed in 2005, the Waegwan Plant has been a symbolic space, serving as the starting point for cathode material production and driving the company's growth for over 20 years. This transformation is not simply the end of its production function; rather, it represents a strategic decision to repurpose the site as an educational hub for cultivating core talent in the secondary battery industry and fostering mutual growth with partner companies.

The L&F Talent Development Center was selected in March as a joint training center for the Ministry of Employment and Labor's "Industry Transformation National Human Resources Development Consortium Project." Based on educational facilities that can accommodate up to 2,000 people annually, L&F plans to jointly nurture next-generation battery industry talent with approximately 50 partner companies.

Notably, as the first talent development center established by a secondary battery materials company, it aims to become the nation's top-level joint training center, supporting partner companies in formulating and implementing strategies necessary for industrial transformation. The center's goal is to produce hands-on professionals who are ready to work in the field.

The main training programs cover the entire value chain, including: ▲secondary battery manufacturing processes and advanced automation, ▲understanding the value chain of the eco-friendly vehicle industry, ▲new processes and chemical processes for lithium cathode active materials, and ▲analysis of recycled materials from waste batteries. In the future, the center plans to expand its offerings to include ▲AI-based smart work and data analysis, ▲global quality analysis and response, and ▲secondary battery seminars. Internal talent development will also be pursued through programs such as new employee training, job competency enhancement, and leadership courses.

L&F expects that the Talent Development Center will contribute not only to shared growth with partner companies but also to strengthening the capabilities of the regional industrial ecosystem. Kim Kyubal, head of the L&F Talent Development Center, stated, "The Talent Development Center will serve as a foundation for both internal and external talent to grow and as a platform for building a sustainable ecosystem together with our partners. By making the nurturing of technical talent a core corporate strategy, we will overcome various industry challenges together and continue to pursue shared growth."
