Theme: "Shouting New Hope at the End of Joseon"
Boseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim Cheolwoo) announced on September 30 that the '2025 Boseong National Heritage Night Tour' will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on October 24 and 25 throughout the Boseong-eup area.
This year’s night tour is themed 'Shouting New Hope at the End of Joseon.' It is sponsored by the National Heritage Administration and South Jeolla Province, and hosted and organized by Boseong County.
The 'Night Tour' is a cultural heritage journey that takes place at night. The county plans to offer a unique program where visitors can experience cultural heritage illuminated in new lights and colors not visible during the day, and immerse themselves in the history and stories contained within.
Boseong is known as the land of hope where Admiral Yi Sunshin secured military provisions to rebuild the naval forces during the Imjin War, and it is the site where he famously reported, "I still have twelve warships left."
Additionally, Boseong's 'Ochungsa' houses the memorial tablet of General Sun Geoi, a comrade of Admiral Yi Sunshin and an unsung hero of the Battle of Haengju. 'Boseong Hyanggyo' is the site of the Boseong Hyanggyo Jeju Shipwreck Incident, which ignited resistance during the Japanese colonial period. As such, Boseong is a region imbued with the spirit of national defense and anti-colonial resistance, and this night tour aims to revive that historical significance through light.
The program will feature a total of 8 categories and 16 different activities. Visitors can enjoy nightscapes that reimagine cultural heritage through media art and lighting, night paintings where they can draw and appreciate art with light, guided tours led by historical figures, and storytelling sessions about Admirals Yi Sunshin and Sun Geoi at Bangjingwan and Ochungsa.
There will also be participatory night performances, a local flea market and 'Carrot Market 1597' night market run by residents, a food night market at Bangjin Night Market, and a special overnight meditation tea program at Chunwoon Seoak.
In particular, the signature program 'Secure the Military Provisions' is based on the history of Admiral Yi Sunshin gathering provisions in Deukryang, Boseong, which became the spark for rebuilding the navy during the Imjin War.
Participants will gather provisions through hands-on activities and receive a certificate when donating them to Choyangchang. This aims to spread the historical meaning of "the collective effort of gathering provisions saved Joseon" into today’s culture of sharing and donation.
A county official stated, "This night tour presents a model for utilizing cultural heritage by blending tradition with modern sensibilities, offering an opportunity to discover both fun and meaning. We hope you will take a special night journey, strolling among Boseong’s gently illuminated cultural heritage sites in the crisp October autumn breeze."
