Gumi Police Station Holds Financial and Phishing Scam Prevention Education

For GB College Social Service Group Members and Digitally Vulnerable Seniors

Gumi Police Station (Chief Kim Dongwook) conducted a financial and phishing scam prevention education session on September 26 in the lecture room of the Gumi Volunteer Center, targeting about 60 members of the Gumi University GB College Social Service Group and digitally vulnerable individuals aged 60 and over.

The session covered major types of phishing scams such as telecommunications financial scams, investment scams, and internet scams, along with prevention methods. It also included instructions on how to use the 'Citizen Conan' app, which blocks malicious applications.

In particular, the police explained that recommending investment products with promises of high returns constitutes unfair business practices and is considered fraud. They also provided information on how to prevent new types of "team mission" scams, where perpetrators create fake company websites and lure victims under the pretense of side jobs or part-time work, such as group purchases, proxy purchases, writing various reviews, or watching videos, to steal money.

Kim Juhwan, Chief of the Investigation Division 1, stated, "Phishing crimes are not just simple fraud; they are a serious social issue that threatens the peaceful daily lives of ordinary citizens. We will make every effort to protect the public's peace and safety."
