The National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee announced on the 29th that it has formed the "AI Infrastructure Governance and Innovation Task Force" to discuss follow-up measures regarding the suspension of administrative systems caused by the fire at the National Information Resources Service (NIRS).
The committee will begin discussions by bringing together relevant experts, co-led by Ha Jungwoo, Chief of AI Future Planning, and Chung Jaewoong, CEO of Atto Research, who is known as a data center expert and a member of the Technology Innovation and Infrastructure Subcommittee of the National AI Strategy Committee.

President Lee Jaemyung, at an emergency response meeting held the previous day, stated, "Report solutions to the structural issues, including governance, without delay," and added, "Even now, a dual operating system is necessary, and if needed, we must redesign the system, even in collaboration with the private sector."
The committee plans to present, by November, fundamental structural improvement measures for the national digital infrastructure in the AI era, including a thorough investigation of information and communications infrastructure and the establishment of both short- and long-term countermeasures.
The committee believes that e-government has been operating inefficiently, divided among the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the National Intelligence Service.
Experts have pointed out that the Ministry of the Interior and Safety manages government-led centers (PPP) centered on NIRS, the Ministry of Science and ICT oversees cloud security certification (CSAP), and the National Intelligence Service controls the national network security system (N2SF), each imposing separate regulations and creating siloed systems.
According to the National AI Strategy Committee, experts have analyzed that this structure has reduced opportunities for private sector industry growth and led to patchwork maintenance of existing systems, thereby increasing the risk of accidents and hazards.
Im Munyoung, Standing Vice Chair of the National AI Strategy Committee, said, "We will do our utmost to turn this incident into an opportunity to end the era of e-government and transition to a new era of AI government."
