Heeyul Park of Gwangju City Council Appointed as Deputy Spokesperson for Democratic Party Central Committee

Heeyul Park, a member of the Gwangju City Council representing Nam-gu District 3, was recently appointed as a deputy spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea’s Central Committee. Deputy Spokesperson Park was selected in recognition of his strong political capabilities and extensive experience, which he has built through years of close engagement with the local community.

Deputy Spokesperson Park previously served as both the chairperson and vice chairperson of the 7th and 8th Nam-gu District Council. Currently, as a member of the 9th Gwangju City Council, he continues his active legislative work, addressing key issues directly affecting citizens’ lives across a wide range of fields, including social welfare, education and culture, and industrial construction. Notably, during the last presidential election, he served as the head of Lee Jaemyung’s Gwangju campaign headquarters, demonstrating outstanding organizational leadership and policy insight, which earned him significant trust within the party.

An official from the Central Committee explained, “Deputy Spokesperson Park was entrusted with this important role because of his consistent communication with local residents and his highly regarded ability to solve problems in a rational and practical manner.” This move reflects the party’s intention to strengthen the connection between local and central policies by having a regionally rooted politician take on a key role within the Central Committee.

On September 29, Deputy Spokesperson Park stated, “As a deputy spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Korea’s Central Committee, I will do my utmost to deliver the party’s policies and messages to the public accurately and sincerely. Above all, I will faithfully serve as a bridge to ensure that the real voices of the people of Gwangju and the Honam region are reflected in the party’s major decisions and national politics.” He added, “I will seek answers in the field and repay citizens with practical, livelihood-focused politics that bring positive change to their lives.”
