Previously Caught Twice for Drunk Driving... Fined 12 Million Won
On September 29, CBS NoCut News reported that YouTuber A, who has 1.65 million subscribers, was found to have a record of being punished twice for drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act. On June 26, 2020, A received a summary order from the Daegu District Court, imposing a fine of 2 million won for drunk driving. Later, on August 25, 2022, the 2nd Criminal Division of the Seoul Western District Court (then presided over by Chief Judge Ji Sangmok) sentenced A to a fine of 10 million won for the same charge.
At the time, the court stated, "The defendant had previously received a summary order of a fine for drunk driving around 2020, but committed the same offense again not long after," adding, "There is a strong need to strictly punish drunk driving offenses." According to Article 148-2 of the Road Traffic Act, anyone who has been sentenced to a fine or higher for drunk driving and commits another drunk driving offense or refuses a breathalyzer test within ten years is subject to aggravated punishment.
Earlier, at approximately 3:40 a.m. on September 21, A was arrested in the act and questioned by police on suspicion of repeatedly refusing a breathalyzer test after being reported for suspected drunk driving while driving in the Gangnam district of Seoul. A ignored the police's order to stop, parked the car on the roadside in Songpa district, and attempted to flee, but was immediately apprehended at the scene. It was found that A continued to refuse the police's requests for a breathalyzer test multiple times.
After it became known that A is a popular YouTuber with 1.65 million subscribers, a specific individual was identified online. Demands for clarification and critical comments flooded his YouTube channel and social networking service (SNS) accounts. However, as of now, the individual has not issued any clear statement. The SNS account has been deleted, and no official position has been released through the YouTube channel either.
