Gwangyang Steelworks "Walking with the Local Community"... Joint Volunteer Activities Ahead of Chuseok Holiday

Over 400 Volunteers Sweat Together in Singi and Myeongju Villages, Gwangyang
Improving Living Conditions, Beautifying the Community, and Sharing Cultural Performances

On September 27, just ahead of the Chuseok holiday, Gwangyang Steelworks of POSCO (headed by Ko Jaeyoon) carried out a customized joint volunteer activity in Singi Village and Myeongju Village in Okgok-myeon, Gwangyang City, putting into practice the value of sharing with local neighbors.

This joint volunteer activity is held annually as part of Gwangyang Steelworks’ commitment to actively embody POSCO’s unique culture of volunteerism and sharing, and to become a steelworks that grows together with the local community. A large number of members from the Gwangyang Steelworks Talent Volunteer Group participate in this initiative.

This year’s joint volunteer activity brought together over 400 participants, including Assemblywoman Kwon Hyangyeop of the Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangyang Mayor Jeong Inhwa, Gwangyang City Council Chairman Choi Daewon, Gwangyang Steelworks Head Ko Jaeyoon, 32 teams from the Gwangyang Steelworks Talent Volunteer Group, the Gwangyang City Women’s Association, and the Gwangyang City Hall Small Sharing Group, adding warmth to the event.

The volunteers aimed for more than a one-off event, striving to realize true coexistence with the local community. They traveled throughout Singi Village and Myeongju Village, carrying out a variety of volunteer activities.

The volunteer sites were filled with the warmth and dedication of the participants. From early in the morning, volunteers worked up a sweat cleaning the villages, applying new wallpaper to old houses, and replacing broken lights, alleviating residents’ inconveniences with thoughtful care.

In particular, the Gwangyang Steelworks Talent Volunteer Group, which was created to utilize each member’s unique skills in service, made the most of its strengths by providing electrical inspections, home repairs, wallpapering, and pest control, receiving enthusiastic responses from the residents.

Various cultural talent-sharing events held during the joint volunteer activity also drew attention. Members set up booths offering nail art, beverages, portrait photography for seniors, foot massages, and wooden crafts. Outdoor performances included shows by the Gwangyang Steelworks Acoustic Guitar Volunteer Group, the Saxophone Volunteer Group, invited singers, and youth dance teams, bringing smiles to the faces of local residents.

On September 29, Ko Jaeyoon, Head of Gwangyang Steelworks, stated, "We will continue to engage in various volunteer and sharing activities to become a steelworks that walks alongside the local community. We will strengthen communication with local residents and expand social contribution activities that provide real help."
