Uiseong County Mobilizes All-Out Efforts for Preemptive Wildfire Prevention During Chuseok Holiday

Preparing for Increased Grave Maintenance and Ancestral Rite Visitors
Simultaneous Operation of Prevention and Response Systems

Uiseong County in North Gyeongsang Province has implemented an "Intensive Wildfire Prevention Management Plan for the Chuseok Holiday" to respond to the increased risk of wildfires due to the expected rise in visitors for grave maintenance and ancestral rites ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

Uiseong County Mobilizes All-Out Efforts for Preemptive Wildfire Prevention During Chuseok Holiday Gyeongbuk Uiseong County has launched intensive management for wildfire prevention.

The county is strengthening proactive prevention measures to stop wildfires that may occur due to the carelessness of visitors and hikers. These measures include: identifying the expected number of visitors for grave maintenance and ancestral rites in advance, sending safety guidance text messages, requesting cooperation from village patrol teams through meetings with village leaders, and cracking down on illegal waste burning.

Additionally, during the holiday period, the county has organized and deployed a rapid response team consisting of 22 temporary workers from the Forest and Greenery Division. The rapid response team has completed prior training and firefighting drills to enhance its initial response capabilities. In the event of a wildfire, the team will immediately coordinate with related agencies such as the fire department and the Korea Forest Service to request support from wildfire suppression helicopters and specialized aerial firefighting units.

Kim Jusu, Governor of Uiseong County, stated, "Since many county residents and people visiting from other regions will be heading to the mountains during the Chuseok holiday, extra caution is needed to ensure that even minor carelessness does not lead to major disasters. The county will operate both prevention and response systems simultaneously to protect the safety of residents and our valuable forests."

"The Chuseok holiday is a warm time for families to visit the graves of their ancestors, but it is also the period with the highest risk of wildfires. Uiseong County's latest response goes beyond simple prevention by institutionalizing initial firefighting capabilities as part of an 'all-out management system.' A safe holiday will be ensured when both the local community and administration remain vigilant together."
