6 Out of 10 Koreans Say "Consumer Coupons Help Boost the Economy"

Won Kim Conducts Nationwide Survey of 1,010 Adults
"Use of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Butcher Shops Expected to Increase Ahead of Chuseok"

6 Out of 10 Koreans Say "Consumer Coupons Help Boost the Economy" Won Kim, member of the Democratic Party of Korea.

The consumer coupon policy of the Lee Jaemyung administration has received a positive evaluation from the majority of the public, according to a recent survey.

On September 26, Assemblyman Won Kim of the Democratic Party of Korea (representing Mokpo, South Jeolla Province) commissioned Korea Research, a professional polling agency, to conduct a survey of 1,010 adults nationwide. The results showed that 65.3% of respondents said that consumer coupons help boost the economy. Additionally, 59.2% expressed support for the continuation of the policy.

According to the survey, the most common place to use consumer coupons was restaurants (68%), followed by convenience stores (38%), supermarkets (32.6%), pharmacies (23%), coffee shops (21.1%), and hospitals (19.6%). Among respondents, 63% used the coupons for themselves, while 52.4% used them for children or other family members, and 15.6% for parents or relatives.

Regarding areas for improvement, the most common requests were to expand the regions where coupons can be used (39.8%) and to increase the number of eligible stores (35%). This was followed by calls for more targeted support, such as excluding high-income earners (25%), and increasing the coupon amount (24.2%).

When asked where they would like to use the second round of consumer coupons, the top responses were restaurants (52.4%) and supermarkets (34%), followed by agricultural and fisheries stores (26%), hospitals (25.6%), and butcher shops (19.7%). Compared to the first round, the proportion of respondents choosing agricultural and fisheries stores and butcher shops increased significantly, suggesting that, ahead of the Chuseok holiday, spending on food for ancestral rites or gifts such as agricultural, livestock, and fisheries products is expected to rise.

Assemblyman Kim stated, "The public recognizes that the consumer coupon policy is having a tangible effect on economic recovery," adding, "With Chuseok approaching, I hope that increased consumption of agricultural, livestock, and fisheries products will lead to higher incomes for small business owners and farmers and fishers."

The survey was conducted online from September 5 to 11, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
