According to data submitted by Assemblyman Jang Jongtae of the Democratic Party of Korea to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on September 25, the top five bar franchises by number of stores recorded a total of 1,037 cases of Food Sanitation Act violations from 2020 to this year.

The number of violations by brand was as follows: Twodari with 451 cases, Yeokjeon Halmeoni Beer with 257 cases, Crown Hof with 120 cases, Ganiyeok with 115 cases, and Fun Beer King with 94 cases. The top two brands, Twodari and Yeokjeon Halmeoni Beer, accounted for 68.3% of all violations.

Looking at the annual number of violations, there was a decrease from 228 cases in 2020 to 148 cases in 2021, but in 2022, the number surged by 64% to 242 cases.

By type of violation, 'Violation of Operator Compliance Requirements' was the most common, accounting for 728 cases (70.2%). This category includes acts that threaten food safety, such as storing or using raw materials or products past their expiration date, using livestock products that have not been inspected, failing to take on-site preservation measures in the event of food poisoning, and unsanitary management of equipment and containers.

Other types of violations included 'Failure to Report Business Changes' with 144 cases, 'Failure to Complete Sanitation Education' with 99 cases, and 'Violation of Sanitary Handling Standards' with 33 cases.

In terms of detailed violations by brand, Twodari had 389 cases (86.3% of its total) categorized as 'Violation of Operator Compliance Requirements,' making up the majority. Yeokjeon Halmeoni Beer had 111 cases (43.2%) in the same category, Ganiyeok had 96 cases (83.5%), and Fun Beer King had 62 cases (66.0%), indicating that this is a widespread issue across the industry.

Assemblyman Jang Jongtae emphasized, "It is a serious problem that violations of the Food Sanitation Act are occurring at bars popular among university students and office workers," adding, "Relevant ministries and local governments must provide strict guidance and supervision."
