Daesan Foundation Opens "A Future Long Worried About" Exhibition

The Daesan Foundation announced on the 25th that, together with Kyobo Book Centre, it held the opening ceremony for the literary art exhibition "A Future Long Worried About" at the Kyobo Book Centre Gwanghwamun Branch on the 24th.

The opening ceremony was attended by the organizers, as well as painters Kwon Kidong, Kim Nampyo, Kim Seondu, Kim Sinhye, Kim Hojun, Park Younggeun, Lee Seungae, Lee Hyeonjeong, Jeong Dagyeom, Jo Serang, Joo Hyeongjun, and Hwang Gyumin; poet Jeong Hyeonjong; and writer Yang Gyeongeon, who provided commentary and advice.

The literary art exhibition "A Future Long Worried About," planned to answer the question "What can art do in the face of the climate crisis?" will be held at the Kyobo Art Space in the Kyobo Book Centre Gwanghwamun Branch until October 16. Fourteen painters have visualized poems about the climate crisis written by fourteen poets, offering visitors a sensory experience of the reality of the climate crisis.

Shin Changjae, chairman of the Daesan Foundation, which is hosting the exhibition, stated at the opening ceremony, "I hope that through this literary art exhibition, we can discover seeds of hope for the future to come," and added, "I look forward to those seeds sprouting and leading to our actions to overcome the crisis."

Poet Jeong Hyeonjong, who participated in the exhibition with his poem "Is There a Place to Stay on Earth?", shared his thoughts, saying, "Even amid the climate crisis, I joined the project with the thought that 'poetry has its role, and painting has its role, no matter how small.'" Painter Kim Seondu, a member of the exhibition's planning committee, commented, "When faced with the climate crisis, I felt helpless about what I could actually do, but through this project, I realized that I must do something, even if it is just this."

The literary art exhibition was planned with the aim of actively engaging readers by combining literature with visual art and promoting literature more widely. Since 2006, it has been exhibiting visualizations of works by leading Korean writers as art pieces.
