The Sejong City Disability Rights Advocacy Agency announced on the 25th that it successfully concluded a public lecture on "Human Rights-Based Care and Abuse Prevention for Persons with Disabilities" at the Boram Community Welfare Center's multipurpose auditorium on the 24th.
According to the agency, the lecture was attended by four local assembly members, including Lee Hyunjung of the Sejong City Council, as well as representatives of local disability organizations. The event was evaluated as a meaningful occasion for raising awareness about the prevention of abuse against persons with disabilities and the improvement of human rights consciousness.
The lecture focused on various cases of abuse occurring in the field and addressed practical measures for prevention and methods of human rights-based care. Kim Shinae, director of the North Gyeongsang Province Disability Rights Advocacy Agency, delivered the lecture, sharing practical insights on the distinction between discipline and abuse of persons with disabilities, the necessity of understanding disabilities for abuse prevention, and real-life examples of human rights-based care in the field.
Prior to the lecture, local politicians sent congratulatory messages, emphasizing, "We deeply recognize the importance of human rights-based care and abuse prevention for persons with disabilities, and the Sejong City Council will continue to strive for the enhancement of rights and the protection of human rights for persons with disabilities."
Meanwhile, the Disability Rights Advocacy Agency is an organization that receives reports related to suspected abuse and discrimination against persons with disabilities. It conducts on-site investigations, emergency measures, victim recovery support, post-incident support to prevent recurrence, as well as preventive education and promotional activities.
